Anti Inflammatory Golden Milk
Golden Milk, the creamy, dreamy milk of the gods. I love sharing recipes, but I would rather teach you WHY you are eating these foods, instead of just what to eat. When you realize how powerful these ingredients are, you will appreciate the already tasty drink in front of you that much more.
THE WHY BEHIND GOLDEN MILK:
This warming drink gets it's golden color from the antioxidant powerhouse, turmeric.
Turmeric is known for it's potent anti inflammatory properties, it's work in the body to improve heart health and prevent against Alzheimer's and cancer. It may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis, since both of these are closely tied to inflammation.
Fun fact: adding a pinch of black pepper to your turmeric can increase your body’s absorption up to 2000%!!!
Ginger's power comes from it's component Gingerol, which works as digestive support, and an anti inflammatory and antioxidant. Ginger is also immune building, helping to fight against nausea, the common cold, and free radicals in the body.
Honey has anti viral, anti bacterial, and anti fungal properties, making it incredibly cleansing and helpful for healing. This is why you might take honey when you have a sore throat!
Coconut milk adds a scoop of healthy fats to balance blood sugar and creaminess.
Cinnamon is full of antioxidants and also helps balance blood sugar, and has been shown to decrease risk of heart disease.
- 2 cups almond milk
- 1/2 cup full fat coconut milk
- 1 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- 2-3 tbsp honey
- Pinch of black pepper
Stir over medium heat and enjoy!!!
